How much does FUE cost in the UK?
Across the UK, FUE commonly costs about £3,000 to £12,000, depending on the number of grafts, the clinic's pricing model and how much of the procedure the surgeon performs personally. Smaller sessions of 500 to 1,200 grafts often start around £3,500 to £4,900, sessions of 1,500 to 2,500 grafts commonly cost £4,500 to £7,000, and large sessions of 3,000 grafts or more commonly cost £7,500 to £12,000. Central London clinics tend to sit towards the top of these ranges.
Fixed packages are usually cheaper per graft for medium and large sessions. Per-graft pricing tends to be fairer for small sessions, where a package would include capacity you do not use.

What is the FUE cost per graft?
On per-graft pricing, FUE in London typically works out at about £2 to £4.50 per graft for sessions of 1,000 grafts and more, with small sessions costing more per graft because of fixed costs. For example, 2,000 grafts at about £6,100 to £6,400 is around £3.05 to £3.20 per graft, and 3,500 grafts at about £7,900 is around £2.25 per graft. What is FUE?
FUE stands for follicular unit extraction. Individual groups of one to four hairs are removed one by one from the donor area at the back and sides of the head using a tiny punch, usually under 1mm wide. The surgeon makes small incisions in the thinning area and the grafts are placed into them. FUE leaves small dot scars rather than a line, so you can wear your hair short at the back. It is now the most common technique in London clinics.
Is DHI more expensive than FUE?
Usually, yes. DHI is a form of FUE in which grafts are implanted with a pen-like tool that creates the channel and places the graft in one movement. It is slower per graft, so it typically costs about £900 to £1,200 more than FUE at the same graft limit. DHI is often chosen for hairlines and adding density between existing hairs without shaving. For larger areas, standard FUE is often just as suitable and cheaper. Our comparison of DHI vs FUE explains when each makes sense.
What makes FUE cost more or less?
- Graft count. The biggest single factor.
- Pricing model. Per-graft bands or a fixed package up to a limit.
- Surgeon involvement. Clinics where the doctor performs more steps personally usually charge more.
- Shaven or unshaven. Unshaven or partially shaven FUE takes longer and may cost more.
- Tools. Terms such as sapphire FUE describe the blades used for incisions and may carry a premium. Ask what difference they make for your case.
- Extras. PRP, medication and follow-up visits may or may not be included.
- Location. Harley Street and central London are usually at the higher end.

Request a hair assessmentWhy are some FUE prices so low?
Lower prices can reflect efficient packages and lower premises costs, but they can also mean technicians carry out more of the surgery or the clinic treats many patients a day. In England, the clinic must be registered with the Care Quality Commission and the doctors with the General Medical Council. Check both, and ask who performs extraction, incisions and implantation. How many grafts will you need?
A receding hairline often needs 1,500 to 2,500 grafts. Covering the front, top and crown can need 4,000 or more, sometimes over two sessions. Our guide to how many grafts you need estimates graft counts by Norwood stage.
Is unshaven FUE more expensive?
Often, yes. In unshaven or long-hair FUE, the team trims only the individual donor hairs being extracted, or small strips hidden under longer hair, and works between existing hairs in the recipient area. It takes longer, may limit how many grafts can be moved in one session and so often costs more than standard shaven FUE. It suits people who cannot take time away from work or who want the procedure to be as discreet as possible, and it is popular with women.
How much does a second FUE session cost?
A second session is priced in the same way as the first, by graft count or package. Many people with extensive loss plan two sessions at least 12 months apart, for example 3,000 grafts for the front and 2,000 for the crown. On per-graft pricing that would be roughly £7,400 to £7,600 for the first and £6,100 to £6,400 for the second. Ask for an estimate of the whole plan at your assessment.
Can you pay for FUE monthly?
Many clinics offer finance, including interest-free plans, subject to status. For example, a £6,400 procedure with a £1,000 deposit over 24 months at 0% would be £225 a month, and a £3,199 package with a £500 deposit over 12 months at 0% would be about £225 a month. Check the total amount payable and whether the agreement is regulated credit.
Is FUE worth the cost?
For suitable candidates with enough donor hair and realistic expectations, many people are pleased with FUE results. Transplanted hair usually lasts long term, though native hair can keep thinning. Our guide to how long a hair transplant lasts explains why planning for future loss matters.
