# Hair Transplant Clinics in London: What to Compare

Updated 10 October 2026. By Hair Transplants London.

When comparing hair transplant clinics in London, compare seven things side by side: CQC registration at the surgery address, the surgeon's GMC registration and experience, who performs each surgical step, how many procedures run each day, the quality of the assessment, the total written price for your graft count, and how aftercare works; prices in London typically range from about £3,199 for a fixed package to £11,900 for a large per-graft session.

| What to compare | Clinic A | Clinic B | Clinic C |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| CQC registered at surgery address? | | | |
| Surgeon's name and GMC number | | | |
| Who designs the hairline? | | | |
| Who makes the incisions? | | | |
| Procedures per day | | | |
| Recommended grafts | | | |
| Technique (FUE, DHI, FUT; shaven or not) | | | |
| Total price in writing | | | |
| What is included (PRP, medication, follow-up) | | | |
| Follow-up visits in the first 12 months | | | |
| Travel time from home or work | | | |

Copy this table and fill it in after each consultation. At [Hair Transplants London](https://hairtransplantslondon.com/) we will give you every answer on it in writing, including our CQC details and your surgeon's GMC number.

## How many hair transplant clinics are there in London?

London has a large number of clinics, from single-surgeon practices to multi-site groups. Many are clustered around Harley Street and Marylebone, with others in the City, Kensington, Canary Wharf and outer London. Some consult in one place and operate in another. The number of choices makes comparison important, because clinics differ widely in how procedures are run.

Estimate your own graft count and typical London price with our [hair graft calculator](https://hairtransplantslondon.com/tools/hair-graft-calculator).

## Which checks should every London clinic pass?

**CQC registration.** In England, any clinic performing hair transplant surgery must be registered with the Care Quality Commission for surgical procedures. Search the CQC website for the clinic and check that the registered location is where your surgery will happen. Read the latest report.

**GMC registration.** Ask for your surgeon's full name and GMC number and check the [GMC register](https://www.gmc-uk.org/registrants) for full registration with a licence to practise.

**A doctor-led assessment.** You should be examined by a doctor before committing to surgery. Our guide to [choosing a hair transplant clinic in the UK](https://hairtransplantslondon.com/guides/choosing-hair-transplant-clinic-uk) sets out each check.

## How do London clinics differ in who does the surgery?

This is the biggest difference between clinics. A procedure includes hairline design, extraction, recipient incisions and implantation. Models range from:

- **Surgeon-performed.** The surgeon personally designs the hairline, makes the incisions and performs much of the extraction, with technicians assisting with graft sorting and placement.

- **Surgeon-led team.** The surgeon designs and makes incisions; trained technicians extract and implant under supervision.

- **Technician-heavy.** Technicians perform most steps with limited surgeon presence.

Ask which model the clinic uses and which steps your surgeon performs personally. The recipient incisions set angle, direction and density, so many surgeons consider them the most important step.

## How do London clinics price hair transplants?

| Pricing model | How it works | Typical London range |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Per-graft bands | You pay for the grafts placed | £3,500 for 500 grafts to £11,900 for 4,500–6,000 |
| Fixed FUE package | One price up to a graft limit | From £3,199 (up to 3,000) or £3,799 (up to 5,000) |
| Fixed DHI package | As above, with implanter pens | From £4,099 (up to 3,000) or £4,999 (up to 5,000) |
| PRP add-on | Per session | Around £500, or included during surgery |

The fairest comparison is the total payable for the graft count each clinic recommends for you. Our [hair transplant cost guide](https://hairtransplantslondon.com/guides/hair-transplant-cost-uk) explains both models.

## How do you compare graft recommendations?

Different clinics may recommend different graft counts for the same scalp. A much higher number is not automatically better; it may reflect a lower, denser hairline or a plan that uses more donor hair now and leaves less for later. A much lower number may reflect a conservative plan or a smaller treatment area. Ask each clinic to explain the area they plan to treat, the density they are aiming for and how much donor reserve you will have left. Our guide to [how many grafts you need](https://hairtransplantslondon.com/guides/how-many-grafts-do-i-need) explains how surgeons calculate this.

## What should a London clinic's consultation include?

- Your hair loss history, health and medication.

- Examination of the thinning areas and donor area, often with magnification.

- A diagnosis and whether surgery is suitable now, later or not at all.

- Technique, graft estimate and hairline approach.

- A plan for future hair loss.

- Risks, explained clearly.

- A written total price, with time to decide.

If the clinic will only give a price after you pay a deposit, or if you only meet a sales adviser, note it in your comparison.

## How important is aftercare in London?

Very. Most clinics see you the next day for the first wash, then at intervals during the 12 to 18 months your result takes to mature. Ask how many follow-up visits are included, who you will see, how quickly you can be seen if there is a problem and whether you can contact the clinic out of hours. A clinic close to home or work makes all of this easier.

## Does a central London address mean better care?

No. Harley Street and other prime addresses carry higher rents, and some clinics with excellent surgeons are based there, but the address is not a qualification. Our guide to [Harley Street hair transplants](https://hairtransplantslondon.com/guides/hair-transplant-harley-street) explains what the address does and does not tell you.

## How should you use reviews and photos?

Reviews can tell you how a clinic communicates, how organised it is and how patients felt on the day. They are less useful for judging long-term results. Before-and-after photos are more useful if they are of the clinic's own patients, unedited, at 12 months, in similar lighting, and similar to your own hair and pattern.

## Should you choose a clinic near home or near work?

Think about the next 18 months, not just surgery day. You will usually be seen the day after surgery for the first wash, again at around a week to ten days, and then at intervals as your hair grows, often at three, six and twelve months. If a problem comes up, such as signs of infection, you want to be seen quickly. For many Londoners, a clinic on a direct Tube or Elizabeth line route from work is easier than one near home. For others, especially if surgery means a week working from home, a clinic closer to home makes more sense.

## What if two clinics give very different prices?

Large price differences usually come from three places: the pricing model, the graft count and how the procedure is staffed. A fixed package up to 3,000 grafts at £3,199 and a per-graft quote of about £6,900 for 2,500 grafts are not directly comparable until you know who performs each step, how many procedures run that day and what aftercare is included. Ask each clinic to break down its quote, and compare on the same graft count.

## What are the red flags?

- Pressure to book on the day.

- Guarantees of results.

- Vague answers about who does what.

- Very large graft counts without a donor assessment.

- No doctor at consultation.

- Surgery at a different, unregistered address.

Check CQC and GMC registration, ask who performs each step and how many procedures run each day, and compare written plans and total prices for your graft count.

Typically from about £3,199 for a fixed FUE package to £11,900 for a large per-graft session of 4,500 to 6,000 grafts.

### Are all London hair transplant clinics CQC registered?

They should be if they perform surgery in England. Check the CQC website for the address where your surgery will take place.
